Mr. Strang

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment which Health and Safety Executive inspectors were needed to assist with the investigation of the Piper Alpha incident; what Health and Safety Executive scientific staff were involved; and what planned preventative work was delayed.

Health and Safety Executive inspectors who assisted with the investigation of the Piper Alpha incident were three principal and two 1B inspectors from the factory inspectorate, and three superintending specialist inspectors from the technology division. The scientific staff involved comprised of a senior principal specialist from the research and laboratory services division. Planned preventive work delayed was mainly inspection visits by the factory inspectorate.
