HC Deb 20 December 1988 vol 144 c163W
Mr. David Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he intends to complete the installation of central crash barriers on every motorway in Scotland.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

At present there are 145 miles of motorway in Scotland, of which 41 miles have central barriers. The existing motorway network has been constructed by successive Governments since the mid-1960s, some sections with central barriers, others without. It is our policy to provide central barriers on all new and existing motorways and this will be done as quickly as available resources permit.
