§ Mr. Archie HamiltonThe most recent assessment of the balance of conventional forces in Europe is given in the NATO document "Conventional Forces in Europe: the Facts", a copy of which has been placed in the Library of the House. This confirms that the Warsaw pact currently enjoys numerical superiorities over the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation of about 3:1 in tanks and artillery and 2:1 in combat aircraft.
