HL Deb 19 December 1988 vol 502 c1238WA
The Viscount of Oxfuird

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many civil servants are on secondment to industry and commerce in this country and overseas.

Lord Belstead

In 1987, the most recent year for which figures are available, some 278 civil servants were on secondment to industry and commerce for three months or longer. A number of those civil servants may well have spent part of their attachment outside the UK, but information about the location of outward secondees is not held centrally. A list of the organisations participating in these arrangements was included in the 1987 Report on the Interchange of Staff Between the Civil Service and Other Organisations, a copy of which is in the Library.
