We have no plans to do so.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what would be the present value of the pensioners' Christmas bonus if it had been uprated annually, in line with the retail price index, since 1979.

The December 1987 value of the Christmas bonus would have been £17.03 if it had been uprated annually since 1979 in line with the movement in the retail prices index.

We believe that the £10 cash bonus remains a genuine help to pensioners at an expensive time of year.

The Christmas bonus exercise has now been completed and over 12 million people—pensioners, widows and the disabled—have received their bonus.
