  1. 1. Salary rates shown are basic pay, excluding additions such as allowances, London Weighting, bonuses and special pay additions.
  2. 2. Under pay agreements concluded during 1988 certain grades can qualify for discretionary increments above the scale maximum on the basis of good performance and occupancy of posts requiring certain scarce specialist disciplines.
  3. 3. The numbers employed include full-time, part-time and casual staff.
  4. 4. Industrial craftsmen in research and development establishments receive a craft allowance on top of their basic pay. All industrial staff are eligible to participate in bonus scheme.
