§ 91. Mr. Andrew F. BennettTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a progress report to the House on the tape recording of interviews with suspects, indicating in how many police authority areas this procedure is now in full operation.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggWe understand that about one-third of all forces will be equipped to tape record interviews forcewide by April 1989. By the same date, all forces are expected to have completed plans to introduce tape recording in at least part of their force area. The tape recording of interviews in respect of indictable offences and offences triable either way should be standard practice throughout England and Wales by 1991.
