§ 107. Mr. MorganTo ask the Attorney-General what percentage of the ethnic community are members of the magistracy and judiciary.
§ The Attorney-GeneralNo records are kept of the ethnic origin of members of the judiciary or of magistrates. However, a survey conducted of the magistracy at the end 663W of 1986 showed that the percentage of justices from ethnic minorities in relation to the total number of justices appointed in the Lord Chancellor's area was 1.92 per cent. In 1985 4.07 per cent. of new justices appointed were from ethnic minorities, and the corresponding figure for 1986 was 4.57 per cent. Informal indications are that the percentage will be slightly higher for 1987 and 1988.
