HC Deb 15 December 1988 vol 143 c678W
Mr. Hardy

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) how many eggs which were infected by salmonella enteriditis have been found in the constituency of south Derbyshire during the last 12 months;

(2) how many eggs have been found to be infected with salmonella enteriditis (a) in the Yorkshire and Humberside region and (b) nationally during the last 12 months; and what is the estimated number of eggs produced in the region annually.

Mr. Ryder

I regret that it is not possible to make a precise estimate of the number of infected eggs in any region. But I would agree with what my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Health told the House on 5 December at column19, that the risk to any individual is small and the risk to the healthy adult small indeed.
