To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what recent representations he has received regarding the need for low-cost housing in East Anglia.

Mr. Trippier

Ministers and officials mantain close contact with housing matters in East Anglia. The Government believe that the new Housing Act will greatly increase scope for the private sector, supported by local authorities to meet the needs of the housing market and increase the supply of low cost housing.
