To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what consultations were held with interested parties before he tabled the General Development Order 1988.

Mr. Chope

We issued a consultation paper, including a draft of the proposed order, in February this year. There were 290 original consultees, and a further 156 copies of the paper were sent to those who requested them. A list of those consultees who responded to the paper will shortly be placed in the House of Commons Library.
