What are the remaining ambiguities in the PLO's policy since the Algiers pronouncement and what relation these have to a visit by Mr. Arafat to this country or the PLO's attendance at a United Nations meeting, and what steps they have taken to clarify the situation.

The statement issued by Mr. Bassam Abu Sherif after his meeting with my honourable friend the Minister of State on 9th December has greatly helped towards removing ambiguities over the PLO's acceptance of Israel's right to secure existence and their opposition to terrorism and violence. We hope that Mr. Arafat will confirm this policy in his address to the UN General Assembly in Geneva.
