HC Deb 13 December 1988 vol 143 c505W
Sir Michael McNair-Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has any plans to seek to amend the Infant Life Preservation Act.

Mr. John Patten

We have no present plans to do so.

Mr. Bowis

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information he has on the longest sentence served by a doctor for performing an abortion contrary to sections 57 and 58 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 and Infant Life Preservation Act 1929.

Mr. John Patten

It is not possible from the records held centrally to distinguish the occupation of offenders given custodial sentences. However, the records held centrally show only one offender, aged 21, who was convicted during the last 10 years under the Infant Life Preservation Act 1929.
