To ask the Secretary of State for Health whether he will update his Department's circular to health authorities on ambulance service emergency conveyance of patients by air (HSC (I.S.) 196) dated September 1975.

The advice contained within HSC (I.S.) 196 remains valid. However, we are reviewing, with the NHS, the policy on helicopters in the light of developing interest in this form of transport for patients with major trauma.
