15. Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will adopt as his policy the model policy and guidance on AIDS and HIV infection services provided by the Association of London Authorities.

Mr. Mellor

It is important that local authorities should respond positively to the challenge of HIV infection and AIDS. Government Departments have issued guidance to assist authorities in this, but it is for individual authorities to decide whether and to what extent they wish to adopt the model policy developed by the Association of London Authorities.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what representations he has received following his announcement that health authorities will screen patients anonymously for HIV.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what representations he has received regarding his decision to introduce anonymous blood tests for AIDS.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will give his reasons for not accepting the advice of the Select Committee on Social Services relating to the anonymised screening of blood for HIV.
