§ Mr. Chris PattenI met them at the Development Council on 23 November. We agreed on the fundamental importance of food security and adopted a resolution which provides valuable guidelines on this. We discussed whether the Community's Asia/Latin America programme should be focused on the poorest countries and the progress made to date on renegotiating the Lomé convention. We also reviewed the Community's special programme of assistance for debt-distressed countries in sub-Saharan Africa, under which over £200 million has been allotted over the last year.
