To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many directions he has made under the Local Government Act as amended by way of disposal orders in each of the last three years; and if he will list in tabular form the acreage involved and the location.

The statutory procedures leading to the issue of a direction require a notice of the proposed direction to be given. In many cases, the issue of the notice is sufficient to get the land brought into use or sold. Over 200 notices were issued in the last three years, and in some cases, were followed up by directions, as shown in the table below.
