HL Deb 08 December 1988 vol 502 c754WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the cost of United States Trident D5 missiles to the United Kingdom will be reduced if the savings the United States navy has indentified as possible on the Lockheed programme are implemented.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Lord Glenarthur)

The Trident II strategic weapon system is being supplied to the UK under the Polaris sales agreement which provides for the US and UK to pay common prices for equipment. Thus any savings in unit production costs achieved by the US will apply equally to the D5 missiles procured for the UK.
