To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the total income to the Treasury since May 1979 from(a) North sea oil revenue and (b) the sale of publicly owned assets.

For the period from 1979–80 to 1987–88, North sea oil revenues amounted to some £62 billion. For the period from 1979–80 to the end of 1988–89, net privatisation proceeds are estimated to amount to some £23.5 billion.
