Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security (1) how many social fund officers he has nominated under section 32(10) of the Social Security Act 1986; and for what areas;

(2) what matters relating to the social fund he has specified as matters about which the social fund officer nominated for an area may issue general guidance to other social fund officers in the area.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

A total of 454 officers have been nominated under this section. These are the managers or temporary managers of local offices, excluding national insurance offices, who are authorised to issue guidance to other social fund officers on the nature, extent and urgency of the needs in the areas served by their local offices.
