HC Deb 07 December 1988 vol 143 c176W
62. Mr. Gerald Bowden

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what examination has been undertaken of the Post Office monopoly on the delivery of letters; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Newton

The last public review of the future of the Post Office monopoly on the delivery of letters took place in 1980 and resulted in the suspension of the monopoly until 2006 in respect of letters carried for a charge of not less than £1. We naturally keep the issue of the letter monopoly under review but have no present plans for further change.
