To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what percentage from income tax will be paid by the top (a) 1 per cent. and (b) 5 per cent. of incomes in the current financial year compared to 1978–79; and what are the corresponding figures for income before tax;

(2) what percentage of the revenue from income tax will be paid by the top (a) 1 per cent. and (b) 5 per cent. of incomes in the current financial year compared to 1978–79; and what are the corresponding figures for income before tax.
