To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the total cost to the Treasury of housing subsidies to local authorities in each of the last nine years.

The annual cost of housing subsidies from 1979–80 onwards can be found in successive White Papers beginning with "The Government's Expenditure Plans, 1985–86 to 1987–88".
