To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will provide additional resources for the Health and Safety Executive.

Mr. Nicholls

Yes. The gross supply provision for 1988–89 is £109 million and the previously planned provision for 1989–90 is £112 million. This will now be increased following the outcome of PES discussions, and consideration is being given as to the amount.
