HC Deb 05 December 1988 vol 143 c26W
Mr. Macdonald

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what is his latest estimate of the United Kingdom's share of world trade.

Mr. Alan Clark

In the first six months of 1988 the United Kingdom share of the 12 main manufacturing countries' exports of manufactures was 8.2 per cent. It is estimated that our share of total world trade in manufactures in 1988 will be a little over 6 per cent. Our share of world invisible earnings has been rising steadily and our receipts are second only to the United States of America.
