§ Mr. LesterTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what has been the response of the football authorities to his proposed national football membership scheme.
§ Mr. MoynihanThe football authorities contributed fully in the working party which I chaired on the national membership scheme and agreed the report which the working party produced. They have made clear that they are opposed to the principle of the scheme but I am very glad that both the new president of the Football League and the chief executive of the Football Association have recently repeated their willingness to co-operate with the Government in producing a workable scheme. I look forward to discussing the details of the scheme further with them.
