To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many instances have been discovered since 1979 of employers breaking the law in failing to pay statutory minimum wages according to wage council agreements; and how many resultant prosecutions there have been.

The legal text of the European Commission proposal to introduce tendering for beef intervention provides thatthe tender procedures must ensure equality of access for all persons interested".

The Government supports such an undertaking which, if approved by the EC Council of Ministers, should prevent large monopolistic interests from obtaining unfair advantages in the Northern Ireland meat industry.
