HC Deb 02 December 1988 vol 142 cc401-2W
Mr. Higgins

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether there is any restriction on members of the British armed services who served in Crete during the second world war receiving any commemorative medal issued by the Greek Government; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waldegrave

The acceptance and wearing of foreign orders, decorations and medals by British subjects is governed by the Foreign and Commonwealth Orders Regulations 1969. A copy of these regulations was placed in the Library of the House in reply to my right hon. Friend's question which was answered on 27 May 1988. These regulations would apply to any commemorative medal issued by the Greek Government if it is intended to be worn.
