HC Deb 01 December 1988 vol 142 cc367-8W
Mr. Leighton

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many people drawing unemployment benefit are not registered at jobcentres as job seekers.

Mr. Lee

Since the introduction of voluntary registration in October 1982, unemployed job-seekers are still required to be available for work, but are no longer required to register at jobcentres as a pre-condition for claiming unemployment. Certain categories of job-seekers are still offered registration but detailed statistics are no longer collected.
