HC Deb 27 April 1988 vol 132 c201W
Dr. Marek

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if the road bridge over the railway carrying the new Pulford to Gresford bypass will be such that it could accommodate double rail track if necessary.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The crossings of the Wrexham-Chester railway line were each designed to accommodate the single track which British Rail indicated would meet its existing and future operational requirements.

The two bridges carrying the road over the railway line (one in England and one in Wales) might possibly accommodate a second track if the present track was realigned. The feasibility would need to be examined in detail with British Rail. The major bridge in Wales which carries the railway over the bypass could only be single track.
