§ 22. Mr. Menzies CampbellTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if there are any proposals for speeding up the conduct of business in the Court of Session; and if he will make a statement.
§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonDelays in the conduct of business in the Court of Session were reduced during 1987. Recommendations aimed at securing the speedy disposal of business were made in the report of the review body on the use of judicial time in the superior courts in Scotland, chaired by Lord Maxwell and published on 18 July 1986. Most of these recommendations, which fall within the responsibility of the Lord president of the Court of Session, have been implemented. In addition the Court of Session has been engaged in reviewing many aspects of its work in order to progress it effectively.
