HC Deb 26 April 1988 vol 132 c117W
Mr. Anthony Coombs

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has received from representatives of the British pig industry regarding their current economic situation.

Mr. Donald Thompson

We are keeping in close touch with representatives of the pig producers over the weak state of the market and monetary compensatory amounts. In recent weeks prices appear to have stabilised, while United Kingdom pigmeat MCAs have fallen from —10.9 to — 6.1 per cent. due to the strengthening of sterling. Our objective continues to be the elimination of United Kingdom MCAs in this sector.
