HC Deb 26 April 1988 vol 132 cc88-9W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what information has been provided to the European Commission by(a) his Department and (b) the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate in regard to the Environment Commissioner's stated concern to the European Parliament on 10 February that the Commission lacked details of past and planned test experiments at United Kingdom nuclear reactors under European Treaty article 34.

Mr. Michael Spicer

Since 10 February my officials and the chief inspector of the Health and Safety Executive's Nuclear Installations Inspectorate have had discussions with members of the staff of the European Commission.

The Commission concluded that the United Kingdom has not carried out or planned experiments falling within the scope of article 34 of the Euratom treaty.
