§ Mr. Gareth WardellTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will publish in theOfficial Report the location of any official gipsy caravan sites within an area of outstanding natural beauty in England;
(2) if he will list those cases in which a local authority has compulsorily purchased land within an area of outstanding beauty for the purpose of establishing a gipsy caravan site; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. RoeThe following local authority gipsy sites are in areas of outstanding natural beauty:
- Southerham, East Sussex, (South Downs)
- Redland Depot, Robertsbridge, East Sussex, (High Weald)
- Hawkhurst, Kent (High Weald)
- Pendle Camp, Merstharn, Surrey (Surrey Hills)
- Foster Down, Caterham, Surrey (Surrey Hills)
- Chiseldon Camp, Swindon, Wiltshire (North Wessex Downs)
- Copperkins Lane, Amersham, Bucks (Chilterns)
- Whites Hill, Beaconsfield, Bucks (Chilterns)
I understand that in none of these cases were compulsory purchase powers used to acquire the sites.
