HC Deb 26 April 1988 vol 132 c98W
Mr. David Martin

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he has any plane to improve the checking procedures for establishing the accuracy of mathematics examination papers set for the general certificate of secondary education; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Rumbold

The GCSE examining groups are responsible for the content of GCSE examinations, including the accuracy of examination papers. The Secondary Examinations Council is responsible for scrutinising the groups' procedures to ensure that the relevant GCSE national criteria are met. The Government look to the groups and the SEC to review procedures in the light of the first GCSE examinations this summer.
