HC Deb 25 April 1988 vol 132 c15W
24. Mr. Chapman

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement on progress in initiatives and plans to encourage broadleaved tree-planting schemes in the Principality.

Mr. Peter Walker

The planting of broadleaves will be encouraged under the new woodland grant scheme, which provides substantially higher rates of grant for broad-leaves than for conifers and a supplement for planting on better land. Planting of broadleaved trees by farmers will be further encouraged under the proposed farm woodland scheme.

Amenity tree planting is supported by grants from the Countryside Commission and a number of other sources.
