Mr. Kennedy

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his answer of 20 April to the hon. Member for Ross, Cromarty and Skye,Official Report, column 504, which services he proposes to seek tenders for at Tain bombing range; what time scale is envisaged for the return and assessment of tenders; and if he will make a statement.

Tenders will be sought for a range of support services, including quadrant observation, range warden activities, range safety petrol, target maintenance, the maintenance of communications equipment and vehicles, vehicle driving and administration. The supervision of the range will remain as it is at present, under RAF control. Invitations to tender will be issued in May. Any contract would not commence before April 1989.
