Mr. Boyes

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the rate of change in unemployment levels in the last 12 months in the north-east.

Mr. Lee

The following information is in the Library. On 10 March 1988 the number of unemployed claimants in the north-east (counties of Cleveland, Durham, Northumberland and Tyne and Wear) had fallen in the year by 26,700 or nearly 15.3 per cent.

Mr. Jack

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is the percentage fall in unemployment in each of the parliamentary constituencies in Lancashire since August 1984; and if he will make a statement.
