HC Deb 25 April 1988 vol 132 c70W
Mr. Shersby

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what effect deregulation of transport in London will have on the future of dial-a-ride schemes.

Mr. David Mitchell

None.

Mr. Shersby

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what proposals he has for the expansion of dial-a-ride; and what changes in funding are likely during the next 12 months.

Mr. David Mitchell

We look to London Regional Transport for advice on the future development of the dial-a-ride scheme in London, which has considerably expanded in recent years. Funding this year is 50 per cent. higher than three years ago. We are encouraged by LRT's continuing efforts to secure greater cost-effectiveness and enhanced levels of service.

Mr. Shersby

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he is yet in a position to announce his policy towards the funding of the dial-a-ride schemes beyond April 1989.

Mr. David Mitchell

London Regional Transport's bids for funding the London dial-a-rides beyond April 1989 will be considered in the normal way in the investment and financing review.
