HC Deb 25 April 1988 vol 132 c7W
Ms. Richardson

To ask the Attorney-General what child care provision(a) his Department and (b) the Lord Chancellor's Department provides for pre-school age children of the Department's employees; what child care provision, for school holiday and/or after school care, is provided for employees' children aged five and over; what plans there are for increasing provision in the next five years; and how these are to be funded.

The Attorney-General

(a) None. Only seven of the 19 officials in the Law Officers' Department have children of pre-school or school age and there is no demand for child provision.

(b) None. The great majority of the 450 offices of the Lord Chancellor's Department have fewer than 30 staff which is too few to support local day care schemes. However, where there is sufficient demand for child care, practical advice and support are available to members of staff who wish to establish child care schemes, and requests for modest financial assistance to help establish such schemes will be considered.
