§ Mr. Rhodes JamesTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether British expertise and experience in screening blood for the HIV will be made available to African states under the overseas10W development aid programme.
§ Mr. Chris PattenScreened blood is a priority for all national AIDS control programmes. These are being established in African countries and elsewhere under the technical guidance of the World Health Organisation's global programme on AIDS. British expertise is being used to develop many of these programmes. Britain has committed over £12 million so far from the overseas aid programme in support of this work.
British blood experts are also helping to develop a global initiative, launched by the World Health Organisation, to safeguard blood against HIV and other infections.
