§ Mrs. CurrieIn the 10 years from 1977–78 to 1986–87 just over 8,000 acres have been sold and some £388 million has been realised. Proceeds for 1987–88 are expected to be in the region of £200 million. Regional health authorities have been directed to carry out the Secretary of State's functions in the acquisition and disposal of land and his permission to sell land is not required. Details of individual sales are not routinely collected centrally and could not be obtained without disproportionate expense.
