HC Deb 22 April 1988 vol 131 cc593-4W
Mr. Vaz

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what were the total numbers of persons who were on temporary admission to the United Kingdom in(a) 1985, (b) 1986, (c) 1987 and (d) since 1 January respectively.

Mr. Renton

[holding answer 18 April 1988]: In 1987, a total of 7,517 persons were granted temporary admission to the United Kingdom: information for the first quarter of 1988 is not yet available. The figures for 1985 and 1986 were on a different basis which separately identified those granted temporary admission being further examination, from those granted temporary admission after being refused entry, with the result that those granted temporary admission under both circumstances were counted twice. The figures are as follows; comprehensive data are not available for the first three months of 1985.

Number of passengers granted temporary admission
Year Pending further exmination After being refused entry
1985 April to December 6,746 6,595
1986 12,414 10,757
