HC Deb 22 April 1988 vol 131 cc602-3W
Mr. Robin Cook

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the total numbers of cancelled operations for the first day of each month for the last six months; and if he will give the reasons for those cancellations.

Mr. Newton

Such information has not been collected centrally in the past. Data on the number of scheduled theatre sessions cancelled are being collected from 1987–88 and figures for that year will be available in September.

Mr. Robin Cook

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the latest figures for the total number of operations cancelled on 14 March and 15 March, and if he will break that total down into(a) operations cancelled due to the industrial action and (b) operations cancelled for reasons other than the industrial action.

Mr. Newton

I have nothing to add to my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Slough (Mr. Watts) on 17 March at column681. Information on cancellation of operations generally is not held centrally.
