HC Deb 22 April 1988 vol 131 cc608-9W
Mr. Moss

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what are the latest traffic flow figures on the A47(T) road in Cambridgeshire(a) in total, and (b) or different categories of vehicle, as available; and at what level of traffic flow the provision of a dual carriageway would be considered by his Department.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

In 1987 the average annual daily flow ranged from 8,000 to 38,000 vehicles. A detailed analysis by vehicle type for the whole route is not available. The proportion of HGV's ranged from 10 per cent. to 20 per cent. Departmental standards require that dual carriageways should be considered as one of the options for a road scheme when traffic flows are forecast to exceed 11,000 vehicles per day 15 years after the road is expected to open. The standard finally selected will also have regard to economic justification and environmental impact.
