HC Deb 20 April 1988 vol 131 cc464-5W
Mr. Martlew

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many social security appeals were made by claimants who live in Carlisle city in the years 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987; and what percentage of these claimants were represented during the appeals.

Mr. Portillo

The table gives the available information. The national administrative statistics for social security appeal tribunals are not disaggregated for areas smaller than a social security region and the figures relate to the north-western region, which includes Carlisle city. Equivalent information is not available prior to April 1984.

Social security appeal tribunal statistics are now published annually in "Social Security Statistics" The 1986 edition contains information on social security tribunal statistics from April 1984 to December 1986 while the 1987 edition contains information from January 1986 to December 1986.
