HC Deb 20 April 1988 vol 131 c500W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence why two squadrons of United States Air Force A-10As are being moved from RAF Bentwaters to RAF Alconbury; on what dates this move is to be started and completed; what are his plans for the future use of the facilities at Bentwaters vacated by these aircraft; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ian Stewart

The redeployment of United States Air Force A-10 aircraft from RAF Bentwaters to RAF Alconbury, which was announced in August last year, is part of the continuous process by which the United States seeks the most cost-effective disposition of its assets based in this country in support of NATO. The move began this month and is planned to be complete by the autumn. RAF Bentwaters will continue to be an operational flying station used by the United States Air Force.
