HC Deb 20 April 1988 vol 131 c503W
Mr. Martyn Jones

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how much money is spent on fresh water fisheries research in(a) the United Kingdom and (b) Wales.

Mr. Gummer

Government expenditure on research and development related to salmon and freshwater fisheries in 1987–88 is estimated at £2 million. Of this amount, £625,000 was expenditure by my Department on work relating to both England and Wales. Expenditure on research and development related to salmon and freshwater fisheries is also incurred by the water authorities and NERC research institutes, but details are not held centrally.
