HC Deb 20 April 1988 vol 131 c452W
Mr. Baldry

To ask the Minister for the Civil Service whether he will announce the results of ethnic monitoring of recruitment by the Civil Service Commission.

Mr. Luce

The Civil Service Commissioners' annual report, published today, reports on the commission's recruitment activities in the calendar year ending 31 December 1987. It also sets out and reviews the results of the first year of their ethnic monitoring. A copy of the annual report and of two research studies relating to the work on ethnic monitoring is available in the Libraries of Parliament.

Mr. Butler

To ask the Minister for the Civil Service on what basis the categories of human groups listed on the official forms for the purposes of ethnic monitoring of Civil Servants were chosen.

Mr. Luce

The ethnic origin categories used in the Civil Service monitoring surveys were based on advice from the Commission for Racial Equality and the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys and on the results of a pilot survey in Leeds in 1982.
