HC Deb 20 April 1988 vol 131 c436W
Mr. Anthony Coombs

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what representations Her Majesty's Government are making to ensure that the proposed European Economic Community trade mark office is sited in London; and what financial provision it proposes to achieve this.

Mr. Butcher

London has a very strong case, and we will continue to pursue it with vigour with our Community partners. We have made it clear that we are prepared to back our bid with financial support, subject of course to the approval of this House, and the Copyright, Designs and Patents Bill currently awaiting its Second Reading in this House contains the necessary enabling clause. It would not, however, be appropriate to divulge what we have offered at the moment.
